Don Camillo is an Italian/Belgian restaurant located on the town square in Hoegaarden. It has existed since 1998 and was founded by Tom Van Keyenberg and his colleagues at the time. In its early years, Don Camillo was a brasserie serving pancakes, pizzas, and pastas. It wasn't until 2008 that the owners transitioned into a full-fledged Italian/Belgian restaurant. Over the years, there have been several renovations, resulting in the restaurant we know today.

Today, Tom Van Keyenberg, Stefan Scrayen, and their team are at your disposal to make your dining experience as pleasant and delicious as possible. We cook exclusively with fresh ingredients, and our pizzas are prepared in a stone oven for a true Italian experience and taste! Come and experience it for yourself!

The history

Located down on the Gemeenteplein is the Rosier linen shop, now the Don Camillo restaurant. The brick facade features a series of remarkable Art Nouveau tile panels based on designs by Helman. The very high-quality compositions are unique in Hoegaarden. The missing fifth panel was lost due to a shell impact. This photo from our Grand Cru archive (Verbeke collection) shows the damage during WWII. The Flemish Heritage Image Bank describes the house as follows: "Rosier-Christiaens House with shop (Heritage object ID: 306930 Gemeenteplein 21). Shop house in neo-traditional style with Art Nouveau tile panels, cadastrally registered in 1906 commissioned by the widow Christiaens-Putzeys and Henri Rosier-Christiaens, surveyor." The original inscriptions referred to the goods for sale: “Aunages (a technical term derived from the old unit of length, ell), Cotons, Toiles, Rideaux.”
